As Prosecutor, Gary Germann’s focus has always been the same: protecting public safety while ensuring justice is fair, balanced, and accountable. He believes prosecution should be rooted in facts, guided by integrity, and free from political pressure.
Whether it's addressing violent crime or expanding alternatives for nonviolent offenders, Gary’s approach is thoughtful, data-driven, and grounded in community values. His office works every day to build a justice system that keeps Porter County safe and worthy of public trust.
Gary is committed to holding violent offenders accountable while expanding options like drug court, mental health court, and pretrial diversion for nonviolent cases. He believes in treatment when it works and prison when it’s necessary—and knows the difference matters.
Nearly 70% of jail inmates struggle with addiction. Gary has supported expanded jail-based recovery programs, 12- and 24-week chemical dependency treatment, and partnerships with mental health professionals to reduce recidivism and give people a path forward.
Under Gary’s leadership, the office has strengthened services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. He helped launch a sexual assault response team and is building trauma-informed “soft spaces” in the courthouse for victims and families.
Gary has prioritized the prosecution of online child exploitation, solicitation, and pornography. His office works with federal agencies like Homeland Security and the Secret Service to combat these crimes and protect Porter County’s most vulnerable residents.
From identity theft to scam operations targeting the elderly, Gary is focused on prosecuting financial fraud aggressively. His office hosts public forums and collaborates with federal agents to educate and protect residents, especially seniors, exploitation.
